If you want to know how a product rates, one of the best places to learn is in the reviews sections of Amazon product pages. Those people aren’t shy about adding honest comments and remarks, video, and photos. On this page, we’ve established a working list of the best home alkaline water filters as rated and reviewed on Amazon.
pH: A measure of how acidic/basic water is. This ranges from 0 to 14. Less than 7 is acidic and greater than 7 is alkaline. And 7 is basic, neutral water. pH is a relative measure of free hydrogen and hydroxyl ions in water.
Alkaline water: Water with a ph above 7. When you’re buying alkaline water at the store you should see a level above 7.
Acidic water: Water with a pH level below 7. The further away from a pH 7, then more acidic. So, battery acid is 0 pH while water for cleaning might be a 5 or a 6.
ORP (Oxidation-Reduction Potential): The measure of the cleanliness of the water and it’s the ability to break down contaminants. Good ORP levels in tap water are between +200 to +600 mV.
mV: The measure of ORP in millivolts.
Electrolysis of Water: The decomposition of water into oxygen and hydrogen gas. This is how alkaline water filters are able to set the alkaline or acidity of water it produces.
We want everyone to have healthy drinking water in their homes and offices. We’ve already reviewed the best Reverse Osmosis Machines and the Whole House Water filter systems. So, if you don’t already have one of those systems because they’re just not the right fit for your needs and home, then consider one of these great water ionizers.

Reviews of the Top Alkaline Water Filters and Machines for the Home
The Platinum is the top tier of the alkaline ionizers we had a chance to review. But with the price point and a 4.5-star rating, we needed to take a closer look…and this Bawell product didn’t disappoint.
This is purely a countertop machine as it connects directly to the faucet or the water line under the sink.
- Long life-span
- Display screen shows PH, ORP and filter status in “lifespan”
- Lifetime Warranty
- High Capacity
- Filters last 5000 liters
- Requires at least 20 lbs PSI of constant water pressure
- Price is higher than most machines
The Aqua Ionizer Deluxe is OUR top choice on the list and in all (over 35) that we researched on Amazon. It has a pH capacity of 5.0 to 11.0 and up to an ORP of -600mV.
The machine itself is sharp and looks great when placed. It produces water that is high in anti-oxidants and great to drink. It makes your entire body healthier and it is particularly awesome for the skin, hair, and scalp. Also, if you have dogs with dry skin then they can benefit from this water, as well.
It aids in detoxification and has the ability to hydrate, energize, fight free radicals, detoxify, lower acidity in the body, and (of course) restore electrolytes.
- Price tag
- Large filter capacity
- Easy to read and understand display and front
- 7 settings
- Easy install and connects simply to a standard faucet
Some people have had issues with faucet connection
The Pure Hydration people did something that you don’t see very often by companies: They took the suggestions from what customers wanted to be improved on their alkaline ionizer and actually added some of them.
Performance is really good still, though, with a 9 to 9.5 pH, -4500RP, and 1500ppb
- Install top-of or under-counter
- Sleek design
- Infrared sensor for touchless on and off
- Super filtration
- A diverter switch is necessary. Easy to use but it’s an extra step.
As we promised, we researched and found the best alkaline water ionizers on Amazon. That means that just because Aqua has a 9.0 and 9.5 version out there (and much more expensive) we don’t want to recommend them based solely on price. The 7.0 should be plenty. If you need more capacity, then go with one of the other two. Here are those links:Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 9.0 Aqua-Ionizer Pro Alkaline Water Ionizer Machine Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 9.5
The 9.5 does have an anti-oxidant booster but that’s basically the only difference. That and plate count. Take a look:
Okay, now that’s out of the way: The Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 7.0 really is a great machine.
It has a long life, large capacity and is equipped with a carbon filter in the case that you’re just looking for purified water and not ionized.
- Variable pH levels from 4.5 to 11
- Up to -600mV ORP
- Great design
- Price is fantastic compared to the 9.0 and 9.5.
Doesn’t work with well water.
First off, yes, it’s gold. It’s a little bit “extra”. But the AquaGreen Alkaline water filters and ionizer really does so, so much.
Use the filter to add energy, detoxify the body, hydrate and feel great while drinking great tasting, healthy water.
110 or 220v will make our European readers happy.
Produces pH level water from 3.5 to 10.5 and +600 to -500vm ORP.
Fantastic capacity and life-span
3.8 inch LCD color display
WQA and NSF certified
NOT the easiest of installations. You’ll probably need to watch and read instructionals (included) to install.
We’re not going to beat around the bush, it’s getting that time where the only difference in these products is going to be price and capacity. Seriously..
This is 110-220v and can produce water with pH from 2.8 to 11 and a +500 to -800mV ORP
- Certified by WQA and NSF
- 100% refund if you’re not completely satisfied
The Japanese Coconut shell fiber filter might be a little extra…
We’re aware that his home alkaline ionizer machine looks a bit “busier” than some of the sleeker designs we’ve reviewed but that doesn’t make a bad machine. On the contrary, it’s a powerful water ionizer in a compact but colorful body.
- 7 selectable levels via a colorful, soft-button control panel
- Built-in the USA.
- Built-in activated carbon water purification setting.
- Auto cleans 10 seconds after alkaline water usage.
- Some people don’t like the colorfulness
- Some have said that they don’t get the noted pH levels regardless of setting. But this only 1 of 64 reviewers.
Home Alkaline Water Filter and Machine Buying Guide
Okay, so with all of that done, now let us say this: We still believe that a good reverse osmosis home system is the way to go with home water filtration. It just does a lot more and most will ionize water, as well.
But this isn’t reverse osmosis, this is about alkaline water machines. So, let’s get to it!
Water filter systems will get your water clean by a number of different methods. From “old school” activated carbon and charcoal filters to the technologically superior reverse osmosis and ion exchange. Of course, if you want, there’s always the OG of water filtration: distilled water.
The difference in many of those methods and that of alkaline machines is a pretty big one: Alkaline doesn’t ONLY remove bad stuff but it is actually adding lots of benefits like the desired pH level that you’re after.
In it’s simplest form: Acid reduces the pH and alkaline raises the pH. pH is measured on a scale from 0 to 14. Water sits at 7 and most experts agree that a ph level for 7 to 10 is safe drinking. Anything extreme is actually harmful…think back to the battery acid and lye comparison above.
Did You Know: pH means “potential for hydrogen” For context, think of it this way: 0 pH is basically battery acid and 14pH is good, ole’ household lye.
Alkaline water is safe and it’s all the rage right now. Check out our post for the best selling alkaline waters that you can get at the grocery store right now: Best Brands of Alkaline Water at the Store Right Now
Keep your ph balanced and there is plenty of medical evidence stating that there is a connection between blood after exercise, longer life-span, and fighting against chronic disease. Just keep it normal and balance…
The problem is that most tap water doesn’t sit at a high-enough pH to make it beneficial and it can actually detrimental. Water ionizing and alkaline machine brings the pH level up to where it needs to be to add health benefits to your water.
Alkaline filters boost ph by:
- On the more affordable side, you have remineralization filters which raise the pH level of purified water. The water passes through the filters and extracts minerals that dissolve in the water. These are stand-alone, no power needed devices. Think a pitcher of water with one of those big filters inside of it and as you pour, the remineralization occurs.
- The pricier ones-the ones that we reviewed above-are water ionizers. They’re actual machines that require power to operate. These machines use electrolysis. The water is touched by an electrical current that split the hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The hydrogen is acidic water (low pH) and the remaining water is high-pH or alkaline as this is rich in oxygen atoms.
Alkaline filters purify water with two methods:
Filter elements like carbon and charcoal filters which, when the water passes through, sifts out the chemicals, dirt, metals, and small organisms. These are the least expensive of the alkaline filters.
Reverse Osmosis (there’s the name again!) is used by the top of the line devices and is powered by electricity. Read here to find out how RO works.
There are really only two different designs of alkaline water filters and ionization machines, right now. (This doesn’t count the alkaline water pitchers that we mentioned earlier).
- Countertop- Easy to install but they sit out in the open and take up space.
- Under-Counter or “Under Sink“-More difficult to install on your own but they’re neatly tucked under the counter which saves you space for a crockpot 🙂
While most under-counter alkaline machines are more expensive than the countertop version, that really is just a generalization. You can find an affordable under-counter machine that is close in price to countertops. It’s really just a matter of preference.
How to Buy Alkaline Water Machines
Here are the things that we recommend paying attention to when you’re buying:
Price: Obviously, only you know what your budget is. And the same holds true here as it does anywhere else: You get what you pay for. But you don’t have to break the bank. You can find a good alkaline water filter for as low as $100 or so. You can also find machines with more capacity and more features in the thousands of dollars.
Design: Ensure that you have counter-space for a countertop machine and be aware that you may have to get a professional to hook up an under-sink alkaline filter if you’re not familiar or little experience. Also, your budget may have a say on this feature as the under-counter designs usually carry a heavier price tag.
Warranty and Customer Service: Things will and do happen. With a water ionizer, you’re going to be putting in a pretty good investment. That is, like a car, this is a purchase that you make every so often, sometimes only once. Better to have peace of mind and readily available customer support to help and talk you through any issues and even replace your money or the machine.
Control Panel / Ease of Use: The more high-end you go, then the more you get LCD displays, colors, and buttons. Some like the Pure Hydration model above can be turned on and off with a hand gesture!
You’ll also want to be able to easily see the controls to set and read the pH level you’re after. So, we like the machines with the LCD screen.
Filter Lifespan and Capacity: Some filters will last thousands of gallons and other last, well, less time. Of course, the smaller the capacity of the filter then the more money you’ll need to spend on filters and upkeep.
Plates: The number of plates can determine the quality of ionization. These plates are titanium (usually) and are used to pass the electric current through. The more plates, the better the electrolysis process will be.
Filters: These are really important in the stand-alone, non-ionizing machines. The more filters, the better the purity and pH levels will be. Look for 4 to 6. Plus, keep in mind that you can actually ionize dirty water. It does not good for an alkaline machine not to have a built-in water purifier unless you’re using already purified water. Those with, say, whole house reverse osmosis filters can then use the alkaline machine to ionize their water.
Buying a home alkaline water filters or machine isn’t what we would call a “small purchase”. It’s kind of a big deal, both to the budget and the health of your family. It’s best to buy with some knowledge before getting suckered into an emotional buy while you’re at a large store and being talked to a million-words-per-minute by some sales rep.
Not everyone believes that alkaline water filters are as healthy as some say. There is a lot of myth and guidance on how to stay healthy these days and most of us, at one time or another, fall prey. To us, we just want everyone to have safe, clean drinking water that optimizes them in everything that they do. So, if an alkaline machine or a reverse osmosis machine OR a glass of tap water gets you drinking enough water…then we’re happy with whatever you choose.
